Steps to Having a Portrait Painted

I am aware most people reading this have never had a professional portrait done.  Commissioning a portrait may, to some sound like a scary idea.  However, it should be an enjoyable and exciting experience.  To achive this, I wish you would read over the material presented here and look over the photos of completed works.  If you think you would like to have a portrait done in my style I ask you to call or email me and let me answer any questions to which you can not find an answer here. I promise the experience to be painless and will do my best to make it an experince to remember.

How the process works

I work from photos I have taken myself. Prior to the photo shoot we will discuss the general ideas and set a date and place to take the photos. (my studio, your home, office, etc.)  I will take several photos (as many as 100 depending on the subject) and the subject may want to pose in a few diffent outfits to see which is best.  I will print the photos from my camrea with my portable printer.  We will agree on a pose and expression and then will discuss and agree on the size, background or other features.  The background can  be just color, whis is most often the case, or parts of a room or settting where I have taken the photos or a setup I create in my studio.  I may take photos of other objects I'm asked to include in the painting.  Once that is agreed upon we will agree on the price.  Ther is a non-refundable deposit at that time or before I begin work.

I may also ask to be allowed to do some quick rough sketches at this time just for my own reference.  This whol procedure shouldn't take more than 3 hours.  Most clients tell me the whole experience was a great deal of fun!

I will work on the final drawing in my studio and put it on canvas. I will send a digiral photo of the first stage via email or you are invited to the studio.  If requested I will send other photos as the work progresses. Some clients prefer to be surprised.

Depending on the size and complexity of the painting completion times will vary.  When the painting is done I will deliver or ship it as previously agreed upon.  Full payment is to be paid upon receipt.
